Hainbach „Dear Earth“

I used to sleepwalk for a time when I a child. As is usual with somnambulism, I was not aware of what was happening, so my only memories of this are what my parents told me about it. To me it felt like a riddle - something was happening to me I could not control. I found that exciting. In my experimental works I like to search out similar things: the uncanny has an attraction I cannot resist. With „Dear Earth“ I compiled a set of tracks that are based on generative patching strategies on modular synthesizers. In layman’s terms, I connected analog computers together so they would compose music on their own, but with me conducting and directing flow and intention. The goal with each of these tracks was to go deep into parts of my brain that are half-awake, half-asleep, and recreate that feeling. And tell a story, however abstract it might seem.

The most explicit track, the opener „Still Here“ starts at the point of absolute loss, beeping like hospital floor at night while I recite a song of mine „He is under“ bubbles narcotically, like a body separated from its mind. „Ach Du“ whispers gently, like a sigh from a friend. The quiet „Bandages“ follows up, a moment of calm in world that seems lost to the protagonist. „Nachtmusik“ comes along like a brisk walk through cold winter night, recalling Alban Berg in its harmonic structure. The album ends on „Here come the Warm Drones“, zooming out and revealing the world in which this album took place.

I hope you enjoy this record. Its probably not one to spin at the breakfast table, but it might take you to interesting places if you let it.
